About Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed in your jawbone to replace missing tooth roots and form a stable base for a restoration. An abutment piece attaches to the top of the implant, and the tailor-made restoration attaches to the abutment. Implants can replace one tooth or several teeth.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
Placing dental implants usually requires two surgeries, with about three to six months of healing time in between. To help you relax during this procedure, Dr. Betancourt can provide sedation, such as general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, or oral conscious sedation. Prior to your procedure, your dentist will help you choose a sedation method.
During the first surgery, an incision is placed in the gum, a pilot hole is created in the jaw bone, and the threaded implant is inserted. Finally, the gums are stitched closed over the implant. As you heal, the implant will become permanently fused with the jaw bone. When this process is complete, you will return for a second surgery in which the abutment piece will be attached.
We offer two types of implants: traditional and All-on-4®. If you are receiving an implant-supported denture, or an implant-supported fixed-hybrid denture, Dr. Pinnix or Dr. Betancourt may use the innovative All-on-4® method. This method places the implants at a special angle, allowing them to be restored right away, without having to wait for the implants to fuse to the bone. Our dentists can help determine if this method is right for you.
Benefits of Dental Implants
There are a number of reasons to consider restoring your smile with dental implants. Dental implant-supported restorations function almost exactly like natural teeth. They will not slip out of place while you eat or speak. Implants can also help you preserve the integrity of the jaw bone. In the absence of tooth roots, the jaw can begin to atrophy, or shrink. Implants can halt this process. Meanwhile, with proper care, the implants themselves can last a lifetime.
Why Choose Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney?
Drs. Pinnix and Betancourt provide a one-stop shop for all your implant needs. In addition to implant placement and restoration, Dr. Pinnix can also perform bone grafting and sinus lifts. If you have a compromised jawbone structure, your dentist can use these procedures to restore a strong foundation for your implants.
In many cases, we can use state-of-the-art CEREC® technology to fabricate lifelike zirconia restorations here in the office. These restorations can include implant-supported crowns or bridges. For qualified patients, one-day implants are available; Dr. Pinnix or Dr. Betancourt can extract your damaged tooth, place the implant post, and attach the CEREC® restoration in a single visit. Whether you receive traditional implants or same-day restorations, you will benefit from our dentists’ extensive experience and true concern for your oral health.
