Invisalign® allows patients to realign their smile without the discomfort and hassle of wearing traditional braces. The Invisalign system employs a series of comfortable and virtually invisible aligners that gently guide your teeth into the proper location. At Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney, serving Charlotte, NC, we have over a decade of experience straightening and realigning patients’ smiles. Dr. John M. Pinnix and Dr. George A. Betancourt are certified providers of Invisalign who are ready to help you straighten your smile discreetly and conveniently.
Invisalign can treat many of the same conditions as traditional braces, including:
Typically, Invisalign is most effective in treating mild to moderate orthodontic issues. For more complex misalignment, you may require traditional braces. The best way to determine your candidacy for Invisalign is to attend an initial consultation with Dr. Pinnix or Dr. Betancourt. We can take scans and x-rays of your smile to assess the extent of treatment necessary. You can also discuss your goals and concerns with your dentist at that time.
The main advantage of Invisalign over orthodontics is the discrete and comfortable material. Made from BPA-free plastic, the aligners are designed to fit securely over your teeth while remaining virtually invisible. With completely smooth surfaces, you avoid the irritation and discomfort of metal brackets.
The aligners are also removable, making it easy to brush and floss. This feature also allows you to eat any foods you choose.
During your initial visit, we will take a series of digital impressions to create a 3-D image of your smile. Using this information, your dentist can create a precise treatment plan for the exact movements of your teeth. They can also provide you with an estimated timeline of your treatment.
A straighter smile can increase your confidence and make it easier to maintain your oral health.
Once your aligners are ready, you can begin treatment. You will need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them only for brushing, flossing, or eating. About every two weeks, you will replace your aligner with the next one in the series. Over time, your teeth will gently and gradually shift into place. Your dentist may recommend that you visit our office about every six weeks to monitor your progress.
When your treatment is complete, you may need a retainer to maintain your results. However, some patients are able to use their final aligner instead of a new retainer. You may wish to undergo a cosmetic treatment such as teeth whitening at this point to further enhance your results.
Invisalign is more comfortable and discreet than traditional orthodontics. A straighter smile can increase your confidence and make it easier to maintain your oral health.
